Reg, and the (First) 2022 COVID-19 Post

Posted 2 years, 5 months ago

Registration is now available! The first thing I should tell you...

Vaccination Against COVID-19 Will Still Be Required to Attend MCFC 2022

At the moment, our policy is largely unchanged from the 2021 convention. Just like last year you'll need to be fully vaccinated to attend.

That might include boosters for those that got their initial vaccine early on, based on public health professional guidance. We'll let you know by February 24h.

That's the short version! If that's what you need to know, ready to jump into registration?

Go for it!

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Details

"Fully Vaccinated"

Like last year our policy follows the CDC definition on who's considered to be fully vaccinated, which at the moment is:

  • 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.

Now that boosters are available, there have been some discussions on whether the CDC will update its definition to include a third shots (supposedly if your first vaccination was over 6 to 9 months ago.) Though that's not been made official yet, but that's the big thing we'll be watching for. As such:

Up until February 24th, one month before the con, we may update our policy to follow CDC guidance.
If booster shots are added into "fully vaccinated", our policy will likely follow soon after.

After February 24th, we'll consider that definition set.
At that point you can expect our COVID-19 policy to stay as it is.

Realistically, we expect to know sooner than that. If the CDC doesn't change it by February, we don't expect they'll do so afterward. But even if they do we don't want to surprise you at the very last minute.

In any case, please don't base the health decisions for yourself and your family around you on what some random furry convention minimally requires for attendance. If you're ready and it's time for you to get the booster shot (6 months following one of the 2-shot series, or 2 months following the Johnson & Johnson 1-shot) go ahead and get the booster. That way you're ready no matter what.

Receive Your Final Shot By Thursday, March 10

Again, you're considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after your final dose. That means if you've not been vaccinated (or if you do need the booster) the final day for that last shot is March 10th.

If you're looking to get one of the 2-dose series vaccines (such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines) there's usually a 3 or 4 week wait between the 1st and 2nd dose. As such, you'll want to target your first dose for early February.

They're still available free of charge, and probably at a location close to you!

COVID-19 Vaccination Proof

The types of proof we will accept is at this time still the same as before. The list includes but may not be limited to:

  • An original, or digital picture of an authentic United States CDC COVID-19 vaccination card. This is most likely what you'll have.
  • An official original document, or digital screen showing an official Canadian province vaccine record, an EU vaccination certificate, or similar record issued by the healthcare provider in your region that administered your vaccination.
  • A digital screen of a patient portal showing COVID-19 vaccination dates, such as UofM's MyChart.
  • A verifiable letter from a licensed healthcare professional attesting that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

When you get to the con, be prepared to show your documentation to registration staff in order to receive your badge. We will not retain any of the documentation, or record any of the information. Just, no proof, no badge. And please don't send it to us ahead of time.

Masks

Masks will not be required around the convention, but are still highly recommended. It's a really good idea. You can even get printed ones to match your species! They're so cute; get a few to swap out through the weekend!

Hotel

Okay, not COVID-19-related, but we know you'll be asking about it anyway: Our team is working on it! Hotel room availability will be a little later -- very likely early January. We'll get the date posted ASAP when that's set so that you can prepare.

Still good with all of that?

MCFC 2022 Forms Galore!

Posted 2 years, 5 months ago

MCFC 2022 is March 25 - 27, 2022 and so it's just a few short months away! Everyone here has hit the ground running to try to get everything ready for you by then. And the next thing we're ready for: Dealers and Panels!

Now, let's get you to the correct form depending on what you're interested in...

I'm Interested in a Dealers Den Table

Awesome! The key things you'll need to know: It's not a first-come selection process, so it's worth taking some time on the application to put your best foot forward, and the application form closes December 19th.

Become a Dealer

I'm Interested in Running a Panel/Event

Awesome, too! The key things you'll need to know: Panels are evaluated as they go in, so it is a little better to submit earlier. But if you get that last minute idea, the progrmaming application form closes December 31st.

Panel Ideas Welcome

I'm Interested in Registering

Well .. we'd hoped to have that running at this time, too, but there's a couple more things we need to get set for it. Give us a couple of days to get those ducks in a rows, and that'll be available, too!

Hotel room availability will be a little later -- very likely early January. We'll get the date posted ASAP when that's set so that you can prepare.

I'm Interested in Fursuit Games

And lastly, the Fursuit Games team has a form they put together to gather some input on that. If you attended the Games last year or are planning to this upcoming con, you can provide your comments here:

Your header graphic still says 2021

Yeah, I know. That's next on my list! Patience, please!

MCFC 2021 Feedback Wanted!

Posted 2 years, 6 months ago

Thank you for attending Motor City Furry Con 2021! We hope you had a wonderful time, and we do what we can to make the convention the best weekend possible for each of you.

But, try as we might, we can't think of everything. Or something may have happened that we just don't know about yet. So we'd really like to hear from you! Please let us know if you have any feedback, good or bad, at the link below:

Edit: The online form is now closed, but you can still email us at feedback@motorcityfurrycon.org.

Last Minute Need-To-Knows before MCFC 2021

Posted 2 years, 6 months ago

Hotel Room Cleaning Service

Just a heads up for those staying in the main hotel, they're not doing the automatic daily room clean like you may be used to from the Before Times. They've asked us to relay this message:

I wanted to let you know that the Hotel does not clean sleeping rooms mid-stay. We haven’t since we opened back up after Covid.

If a guest needs toilet paper, tissues, towels, etc., they can call down to the front desk and housekeeping will bring the items up to their room during the daytime hours.

If someone does need their room fully cleaned, they need to call down to the front desk and request it the day before.

So yeah, just let them know if you need anything.

Service and Emotional Support Animals

The hotel has also asked us to remind you of their animal policy:

The hotel only allows service animals for persons with disabilities and requires a waiver for each. Emotional support animals are not permitted at all.

Hotel Incidental Holds

And one last notice from the hotel:

The hotel will apply a $50 hold per night for incidental charges.  So, when we authorize a guest’s credit card.  In addition to the room rate, we also process $50 per night.  If someone is staying 4 nights, this will be an additional $200, which will be released at check out.

It may also be work mentioning that we do not accept cash at check in.  We require a credit card (or debit card although I do not recommend the later because we are actually holding funds.)

Parking Info

The hotel has a large parking lot out front. There is no charge for parking. For additional information, or if you need the address or other travel details, see the Travel / Parking information page.

Registration and Badge Updates

We know you may have initially registered a loooong time ago, and names or pictures might have changed, but unfortunately they're locked in at this point. The registration staff have completed the pre-reg print runs, and thus will be unable to change the name or icon on your badge at this time.

The Canadian Border and the Board Gaming Room

Posted 2 years, 7 months ago

If you were planning on coming over from Canada you may have seen the news that the land border into the US will remain closed until at least after our 2021 dates. If you're planning to travel by air, that's fine. Just not by car. (Yeah, we're confused by it, too.)

If you're affected by the border being closed, we'll gladly honor your registration in 2022 (the COVID-19 page has some instructions to help with moving it) and there's still time to cancel the hotel room.

We're doubly saddened by the news. Of course we're sorry to not be able to hang out with our Canadian neighbors, and had very much hoped you'd be able to join us for our get-together this year. But secondly:

The Board Gaming Room

The majority of our Board Gaming room staff travel from Canada to help out, and as such won't be able to join us this year due to that border remaining closed. It's been so long; we miss seeing them. :(

That unfortunately also means the incredible library of games they typically bring along also won't be available.

Instead the Board Gaming room will be a little more of an open room this year. We'll still have the room set aside for it, but it'll be more of a BYOBG type of space. If there's a game you really enjoy and want to share, bring it along. We may try to work out a way to coordinate gathering times for games you want to run.

Volunteering Makes Conventions Happen

That's the biggest impact the border closure has had on the con, but a few other departments have been hit by it, too. So please be understanding if it takes a few minutes longer to get through a line or to pick up your badge. <3

If you're able to lend a hand, I encourage you to throw your hat into the Volunteer ring; they've just updated some of their info to make helping out a little easier. And an hour here or there can really make a difference!

Thanks, and see you in a couple of weeks!
