Motor City Furry Convention is Michigan's 18+ anthropomorphic appreciation convention, for furries and furry fans alike. We have great panels, board games, video games, events, and so much more. This con is a labor of love and we aim to share that with all our guests. So come experience all the fun!
It's July 1st; Pride Month is now over, so you know what that means: Pride Rest-Of-The-Year!
It also means we're about three months out from Motor City Furry Con 2021. How exciting! It's been a long journey since that spring nearly a year and a half ago when MCFC, all conventions, and just about everything suddenly came to a screeching halt. But things are moving again, the convention is once again set to go, and we continue our forward march toward October. We have a number of irons in the fire, so I want to tell you what's in store.
If you're looking for a room you've likely already noticed, but we have official word that the main hotel is full. All rooms, entirely booked up, already! Goodness. There's always cancellations, though, especially as we get closer to the con. If you're after a room in the main hotel, check back periodically in case something shows up.
There are a couple hotels across the street that you could book right now: The Hampton Inn & Suites and The Fairfield Inn & Suites. Both are approximately a 10 minute walk across the street. We're seeing if we can set up a discounted room block at those; links will be posted on the Hotel page if those become available.
As mentioned earlier, we unfortunately don't plan to open up dealers applications for 2021, as we're carrying over the confirmed dealers from 2020.
We know you're interested in that list, though! Once we have the current vendors re-confirmed, and the layout set, we'll be publishing the dealers list here on this site. Keep an eye out for that within the next month or so.
A new venue brings new challenges, between negotiating the layout of the space, room availability and scheduling, and all that. Long story short, the programming team is working through the schedule of panels and events that will happen during the convention.

Running a convention is a collaborative effort. As always, we're keeping an eye out for critters that would like to lend a hand, and perhaps get a glimpse for how these things work behind the scenes. It's surprisingly fun. If you just want a taste, go ahead and check that volunteer checkbox on your registration form. If you feel you're ready to jump in with both feet, you may consider going right to the Join Staff route. (And yep, we see the couple of applications that came through recently -- give us a little bit to get back to you!)
So far, we're still a Go. We may not be fully out the pandemic yet, and things can change so rapidly sometimes, but we're still aiming for that light at the end of the tunnel. We're holding onto that hope. And we hope to see you this October!

Registration for MCFC 2021 re-opens Saturday, June 26 at Noon. If you registered in late 2019 or early 2020 for that convention, and didn’t donate it or request a refund, your registration will have been carried over to 2021 and should be still on the books.
If you think you might already be registered but aren’t sure, check your email inbox; re-sent confirmation messages to those still registered should be going out about now.
The link for the hotel reservations will also become available at that time. Keep an eye on the https://motorcityfurrycon.org/hotel/ page for that. We don’t expect a rush on hotel rooms, but then again we’re living in strange times, so it might be a good idea to get yours in sooner than later. In other words, if you’re planning on doing both on the 26th, consider doing the hotel reservation process first, and register second.
Earlier, we said we weren’t sure about whether we would require vaccination to attend this year. Now, we’ve decided:
To attend MCFC 2021 all attendees will be required to be COVID-19 vaccinated, or to wear a mask for the duration of the convention.
When you check in at registration to pick up your badge, show them your vaccination card. If you’ve lost your vaccination card or are otherwise unable or unwilling to show it, we will ask you to wear a mask through the entire convention.
These requirements are subject to change depending on state and federal regulations, and pandemic conditions as we get closer to the convention.
Sorry prospective vendors, we don’t anticipate opening dealers table applications for this year. Similar to registration, we’re carrying over the paid and confirmed dealers from 2020 to this year’s convention. Please keep an eye out after this year for information on becoming a dealer in 2022.
The Artist Alley will be available, though space may be very limited this year. We’re still looking at placement options with our new venue. But if you’re hoping to sit in the AA this year, just be aware that spots are likely to be limited.

What does that mean? Well...
Yep! Add it to your calendar, registration will re-open and hotel reservation information will become available June 26th at Noon Eastern. We'll have more specific details coming out soon, but at the least we wanted to get you looking ahead to that date.
That’s right – we’re currently a go for our new dates: October 8 - 10, 2021. The summer heat is gone. The leaves on the trees starting to change. Pumpkin spice. And MCFC right there in the middle of it all in the fall!
And along with that, we have a new home: The Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest. We’ll have some more information on that soon. Also see some important information about it below, especially in relation to Sponsors.
We’ll get back to that soon. First, we want to address:
COVID-19 hit us all very hard, and we’ve seen the impact it’s had on the community. One whole year has passed, a seemingly endless not-quite-quarantine. No conventions, no parties, very little social interaction; friends, family kept at a distance for so, so very long.
The COVID-19 vaccines, on the other hand, are now generally available for everyone to receive. Recent indications point to there being a surplus, suggesting that the demand for the vaccine is being met, and that everyone is able to get those shots well before the fall. And even now some of the projections put us at having at least some degree of herd immunity by late 2021.
Cautious as we may still be, we have a strong hope that we can make this happen, and we want to extend this feeling of hope to you. There seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel, in other words. So, we felt we had to at least give it a try, and bring some brightness back to our little furry corner of the world.
Just like the start of this pandemic, things can change so rapidly. The projections might not end up where we want them to be, or public policies may not allow events to happen.
We hope it doesn’t come to that, but if we must postpone again to keep everything safe, we’ll postpone again. We’ll be posting periodic updates as time goes on, letting you know how things are looking for the con. But as of now, we’re a go for October.
We’re still working out the details, but there will likely be changes to your convention experience. You can plan on masks and some degree of social distancing. We might have to limit attendance and registration numbers.
But over the next couple of months we’ll be looking to state and local health officials for guidance on the policies we’ll need to set, in addition to the hotel’s own policies.
The situation is constantly evolving, which certainly frustrates planning. Thank you for your patience as we work out the policies we’ll need to make this happen. Keep an eye out for updates along the way as we get closer to the con.
We’re not sure yet; we’re still working out the details on what we’ll need to do on this, too.
At this time, we’re not anticipating making vaccination mandatory for attendance. The vaccination cards are unfortunately easy to fake and difficult to authenticate. And again, we’re hoping for some degree of herd immunity by that time, where enough people have the vaccine and have had it long enough that it doesn’t matter if there are a few attendees that don’t.
However, it’s always possible the recovery from the pandemic won’t be as far along as we’d hoped. And of course we would be required to comply with any federal, state, or local mandates for events, or venue policies, should any be in effect at that time. In any case, it’s certainly possible that will be required. We’ll keep this status updated, and post about it periodically to keep you up to date.
If you want to be sure you can attend, go ahead and get the vaccine, if you can. It’s a very good idea anyway.
Again, our new dates are October 8 - 10, 2021. If you registered in late 2019 or early 2020, your registration has been carried over to our 2021 dates. After July 1st, if you’re unable to attend you’ll instead be able to move your registration to 2022. That option will extend and be available up until the convention itself. The hotel will have a cancellation policy that will let you release the room a few days before check-in. We know it’s no fun missing a convention, but if you’re not feeling well before the con, please stay home.

The change in venue brings with some other needed changes. Long story short, we will no longer be able to offer full meals in our Sponsors Lounge.
We will have individually packaged snacks (chips, popcorn, etc), hot appetizers, bottled water and soda available, however. Sponsors will also receive a voucher for the food stations the hotel will have set up. And our usual beer/cider hours will certainly still be a thing.
We know many of you are still registered as a sponsor, perhaps in anticipation of those meals being a perk. If you were hard-set on those meals, we don’t have a sponsorship downgrade path. Instead, we recommend waiting until registration is open, and using the refund option on your current registration and then re-registering as at the normal attendee level.
The Super Sponsor brunch is unaffected, and is still in the plans, however!
If you were selected as a dealer before, and haven’t canceled your registration, you should still be on the list for 2021. Keep an eye out for an email for details on that soon.
