The December 2022 COVID-19 Update

Posted 1 year, 11 months ago

It’s December! The 2022 cons are pretty much behind us, so it's time to look forward to 2023, and MCFC in March!

With the convention around the corner, it's time to once again say...

Vaccination Against COVID-19 Will Still Be Required to Attend MCFC 2023

Our vaccination policy is effectively unchanged from last year. You'll of course need to be fully vaccinated to attend. That includes the full original series, though we won't be checking for boosters. Checking for multiple vaccination dates gets complicated and we hope by checking for the first series this will streamline the process.

Though we do not require boosters we highly encourage everybody to get all appropriate boosters applicable to your situation.

Receive Your Final Shot By Thursday, March 10

If you've somehow skipped out on the COVID-19 vaccine up until now, it's finally your opportunity to get it done. You're considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after your final dose of the primary series, which means the final day for that last shot is March 10th. For the 2-dose series vaccines (such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines) there's usually a 3 or 4 week wait between the 1st and 2nd dose. As such, you'll want to target your first dose by early February.

But why wait? They're still available free of charge, and probably at a location close to you!

Masks

Similarly, the mask requirement is largely unchanged: Face masks are highly recommended but not required in any portion of the convention space.

COVID-19 Vaccination Proof

The types of proof we will accept is at this time still the same as before. The list includes but may not be limited to:

  • An original, or digital picture of an authentic United States CDC COVID-19 vaccination card. This is most likely what you'll have.
  • An official original document, or digital screen showing an official Canadian province vaccine record, an EU vaccination certificate, or similar record issued by the healthcare provider in your region that administered your vaccination.
  • A digital screen of a patient portal showing COVID-19 vaccination dates, such as UofM's MyChart.
  • A verifiable letter from a licensed healthcare professional attesting that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

When you get to the con, be prepared to show your documentation to registration staff in order to receive your badge. We will not retain any of the documentation, or record any of the information. Just, no proof, no badge. And please don't send it to us ahead of time.

International Travel and Local Testing

If you’re traveling internationally to attend MCFC, you might still need to take a COVID-19 test before you travel. The nearest location that provides PCR tests is:

CVS on Whittaker Rd (About 1.5 miles away from the convention)

Please confirm the requirements both to and from your country of origin, and plan ahead! Figure out what requirements you’ll have to meet and when so that your trip goes as smoothly as possible!

If you're not traveling internationally and just want to know before the convention (a very good thing) testing is available all over, including over the counter at multiple stores.

Registration for 2023 is Go!

Posted 2 years, 1 month ago

Yeah! Registration for MCFC 2023 is now open!

We're in Early Bird pricing, and that will last through the end of the year. In other words, plenty of time to get that registration in. But, it's open now if you want to go ahead and get it done!

COVID-19 Vaccinations

In COVID terms, March is 100 years away. That's to say, a lot can change between here and there, and it's entirely impossible to predict. We're still working on a detailed policy, but if you've been vaccinated for a while assume you'll want to have the updated booster. But anyway, we'll have a more detailed policy closer to the con, while making sure you'll have plenty of time to be ready for it.

Hotel

If you hadn't seen it before, we plan to have the hotel link available Monday, October 10th, 2022 at Noon, 12:00 PM Eastern.

The process for reserving a hotel room is entirely independent of registration. That's to say, you do not need to register first to be eligible for a hotel room.

On the contrary, you may wish to wait until you're sure you have a room before you register. Or, you can go ahead and get the registration done and out of the way now if you prefer. Up to you!

I want to get the registration done and out of the way now.

Well, okay!

As usual, the link will be made available on the Hotel page via a scheduled update. We've seen rooms disappear quickly in previous years, so if you want to be there the moment it opens, that's when!
