Motor City Furry Convention is Michigan's 18+ anthropomorphic appreciation convention, for furries and furry fans alike. Come register at either Sponsor or Super Sponsor level and let our expert lounge staff show you why people come to party with us year after year. We have great panels, board games, video games, events, and so much more. This con is a labor of love and we aim to share that with all our guests. So come experience all the fun!
If you were planning on coming over from Canada you may have seen the news that the land border into the US will remain closed until at least after our 2021 dates. If you're planning to travel by air, that's fine. Just not by car. (Yeah, we're confused by it, too.)
If you're affected by the border being closed, we'll gladly honor your registration in 2022 (the COVID-19 page has some instructions to help with moving it) and there's still time to cancel the hotel room.
We're doubly saddened by the news. Of course we're sorry to not be able to hang out with our Canadian neighbors, and had very much hoped you'd be able to join us for our get-together this year. But secondly:
The majority of our Board Gaming room staff travel from Canada to help out, and as such won't be able to join us this year due to that border remaining closed. It's been so long; we miss seeing them. :(
That unfortunately also means the incredible library of games they typically bring along also won't be available.
Instead the Board Gaming room will be a little more of an open room this year. We'll still have the room set aside for it, but it'll be more of a BYOBG type of space. If there's a game you really enjoy and want to share, bring it along. We may try to work out a way to coordinate gathering times for games you want to run.
That's the biggest impact the border closure has had on the con, but a few other departments have been hit by it, too. So please be understanding if it takes a few minutes longer to get through a line or to pick up your badge. <3
If you're able to lend a hand, I encourage you to throw your hat into the Volunteer ring; they've just updated some of their info to make helping out a little easier. And an hour here or there can really make a difference!
Thanks, and see you in a couple of weeks!
This is fairly big, important news that you'll need to know. Are you ready?
Previously we'd announced that anyone unable to show proof of vaccination would be allowed in, under provision of remaining masked the entire time. With the rising COVID-19 rates we're seeing right now, especially with the delta, lambda, and who knows what other variants we might see popping up, we could not see a path forward to holding a convention at this time without changing that. So in the interest of the safety of all our attendees (♥ you all) and your families, COVID-19 vaccination will be required this year.
We’ve been figuring out everything we’ll need to do to make this happen, but at the moment we don't anticipate allowing any exceptions to the rule. And as always, our policies may be updated in accordance with any changes to state and local guidelines.
Now on to the specifics:
Remember, you're considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving a single-dose vaccine (such as the Johnson & Johnson Jannsen vaccine,) or two weeks after receiving the second dose of a 2-dose series vaccine (such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.) As such, you must receive all doses of the vaccine by September 23, 2021. If you've not yet received your vaccine, they're available free of charge, and probably at a location close to you!
The types of proof we will accept is at this time still the same as before. The list includes but may not be limited to:
When you get to the con, be prepared to show your documentation to registration staff in order to receive your badge. Don't forget it at home -- add it to your con packing list!
We will not retain any of the documentation, or record any of the information. Just, no proof, no badge. And please don't send it to us ahead of time.
Masking is recommended but not required to attend the convention.
We hope this policy change doesn't doesn't affect many of you. But if this requirement means you'll be unable to attend this year, you still have the option to defer your registration to 2022 (specific dates are still TBD, unfortunately.) When you registered, you should have received an email with a confirmation link. If you had registered before June 26th, additional confirmation messages were sent out on that date with the same link. There are instructions inside that link that allow you to automatically move your registration to next year. If you need any additional help, or if you can't find that link, registration@motorcityfurrycon.org should be able to help you out. Registration staffers are working through a number of messages now, however, so please give them some time to respond.
And as before that option will be available up until the convention itself. We know it’s no fun missing a convention, but if you’re showing symptoms of an illness or otherwise not feeling well before the con, please stay home.
Just a little over one month to go! Stay safe and healthy; looking forward to seeing you then!
I'm a little late getting this out, but we have a lot in the air and I wanted to get as much down for this as possible! First, let's start with the important stuff.
With officials hinting that there's a possibility of the Canadian border opening up in time, and given that so many different systems do things in their own ways, we're expanding the types of documents we'll accept. That now includes but may not be limited to:
When you get to registration to pick up your badge, show them one of the above. We will not retain any of the documentation, and please don't send it to us ahead of time.
Remember, it takes two weeks following the shot to build up the full effects of the vaccination. The two-dose series vaccines are scheduled with about a month between doses. If you've been waiting to get it, the time is now!
And of course concern over variants is growing. We're certainly watching the situation. If you've registered, and you feel comfortable attending right now, you still have the option to move your registration to 2022 (specific dates are still TBD, unfortunately.) See the confirmation email you got from registration for the confirmation link that will let you do that, or see the Rescheduled page for more instructions. If you've attended another event (or even if you haven't) we encourage you to get a COVID-19 test ahead of time. I surely will.
If you're still looking for a hotel room, we've made arrangements with the neighboring hotels as overflow space.
The walk isn't too bad -- about 10 minutes, depending on the traffic light. If you still need that room space, check out the details on making a reservation over on the Hotel page.
And lastly, our confirmed Dealers are up! We don't yet have a map of the table layout -- we'll try to get that posted closer to the convention.
But take a look at the vendors you'll see at the convention, what they might have available, and start making that shopping list so you can maximize your furryness!
That's the current batch update for MCFC. We're now a little under two months to go -- time is flying! Hope to see you there!
It's July 1st; Pride Month is now over, so you know what that means: Pride Rest-Of-The-Year!
It also means we're about three months out from Motor City Furry Con 2021. How exciting! It's been a long journey since that spring nearly a year and a half ago when MCFC, all conventions, and just about everything suddenly came to a screeching halt. But things are moving again, the convention is once again set to go, and we continue our forward march toward October. We have a number of irons in the fire, so I want to tell you what's in store.
If you're looking for a room you've likely already noticed, but we have official word that the main hotel is full. All rooms, entirely booked up, already! Goodness. There's always cancellations, though, especially as we get closer to the con. If you're after a room in the main hotel, check back periodically in case something shows up.
There are a couple hotels across the street that you could book right now: The Hampton Inn & Suites and The Fairfield Inn & Suites. Both are approximately a 10 minute walk across the street. We're seeing if we can set up a discounted room block at those; links will be posted on the Hotel page if those become available.
As mentioned earlier, we unfortunately don't plan to open up dealers applications for 2021, as we're carrying over the confirmed dealers from 2020.
We know you're interested in that list, though! Once we have the current vendors re-confirmed, and the layout set, we'll be publishing the dealers list here on this site. Keep an eye out for that within the next month or so.
A new venue brings new challenges, between negotiating the layout of the space, room availability and scheduling, and all that. Long story short, the programming team is working through the schedule of panels and events that will happen during the convention.
Keep an eye out for that, likely within the next month or so as well!
Running a convention is a collaborative effort. As always, we're keeping an eye out for critters that would like to lend a hand, and perhaps get a glimpse for how these things work behind the scenes. It's surprisingly fun. If you just want a taste, go ahead and check that volunteer checkbox on your registration form. If you feel you're ready to jump in with both feet, you may consider going right to the Join Staff route. (And yep, we see the couple of applications that came through recently -- give us a little bit to get back to you!)
So far, we're still a Go. We may not be fully out the pandemic yet, and things can change so rapidly sometimes, but we're still aiming for that light at the end of the tunnel. We're holding onto that hope. And we hope to see you this October!
Are you ready?! It's time, and #MCFC2021 is a go! Let's do it! Get yourself registered and gain admission to the convention here:
Next, you'll need a hotel room! That's now available, too. Get your hotel reservation here:
